Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has demanded the guide introduce of five Nigerians reportedly arrested in Borno Declare over T-shirts bearing the words “Tinubu Must Go.”
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate said that if a political slogan is the motive for their detention, those responsible must describe how wearing a shirt became an offence in a democracy.
Naija News recalls that the Borno Declare command of the Nigeria Police Force arrested and charged five men over T-shirts bearing the inscription ‘Tinubu Must Go’ in Maiduguri.
The men were accused of printing and wearing the shirts including the alleged intention of causing a breach of society peace in the West Complete Roundabout area of the city.
The suspects were identified as Baba Aji Gremami, 44; Mustapha Abba Yemen, 28; Abbacha Mohammed Ali, 32; Adam Umar Gubio, 21; and Abdulhamid Mohammed, 21.
Nonetheless, in a allege on Wednesday by his spokesperson, Phrank Shaibu, who too doubles as the Director of Strategic Communication of the ADC Presidential Campaign Council, Atiku said President Bola Tinubu once stood including Nigerians protesting fuel prices under President Goodluck Jonathan, but now presides over a charge-of-living crisis that has made the same fuel, along including food, transport and electricity, painfully pricey.
“Tinubu opposed Jonathan’s fuel policy in the streets. He can campaign against them. He cannot produce humans disappear into custody for wearing them.”
Atiku called on the authorities to provide the detainees’ whereabouts, grant them steer entry to their families and lawyers, and distribute them if the slogan is the foundation for their arrest.
“Tinubu was free to tell Jonathan that his policies were hurting Nigerians. And when citizens put their anger on a T-shirt, the response is reportedly an arrest. Nigerians are living including the consequences of Tinubu’s fuel policy in their homes. It is not a weapon, a challenge or a crime. President Tinubu can differ alongside those words. What separate of democracy grants its President the right to protest, then takes that right away from everyone else?” Atiku asked.
“‘Tinubu Must Go’ is a require for political transform. Nigerians must be free to tell Tinubu that his policies are hurting them. Start these five citizens now,” the declaration added.
