It is a sad Christmas for a lot of homes as some have been left stranded at car parks due to the lingering fuel crisis.
As the continuing scarcity of petrol continues to bite harder, passengers travelling for Christmas were stranded at Mararaba motor park in Nasarawa Situation on Sunday.
NAN reports that as a result of the scarcity of petroleum products, transporters seem to be cashing in on the development, together with fares increased arbitrarily.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) correspondent who visited some of the parks on Sunday reports that travellers had given up on the travel and returned home due to shortage of vehicles at the parks.
Mr Ernest Obi, a businessman who was supposed to commute to Enugu status said he would not be able to embark on the travel.
He said he spent four hours at the Mararaba motor park but was unable to obtain a vehicle.
“I cannot conceive what humans are going across. There are few cars at the park and those that are accessible, have doubled their fares.
“I will be going fund home. Our staying in this country is becoming unbearable.
“I came to the park as before extended as 7 a.m. and this is noon. But currently, the drivers are asking for in the middle of N4,500 and N5,000,” she said.
Another intended traveller, Miss Jacinta Uche said: “the scenario in the Mararaba motor park is so unhelpful. I have not seen a vehicle to convey me to my village.
“You can see the crowd yourself. I used to compensate N2,500 from this park in Mararaba to Benue. I got here as in a little while as 6 a.m. thinking that I will prevent the rush.
“But to my surprise, I met so several other passengers who said they got here earlier than me. Why is it that this scarcity occurs approximately the Christmas season every year?”
Another intended traveller, Miss Joy Andrew said the Christmas period was a time and likelihood for most persons to journey and gather loved ones and parents.
Andrew, who was seen leaving the park, told NAN that she would endeavor again in the night.
“I believe I will take a night bus later than what I have veteran. May be it will be improved,” she said.
She added that the condition had too caused a lot of exploitation on travellers by drivers and bus owners.
“This circumstance is making the drivers to exploit commuters as a lot of of them have increased the price of transport fare.
“The drivers have doubled the fares. This year’s Christmas will be dull for me owing to the reality that I don’t reflect I will constitute it to the village,” she said.
NAN too reports that the fuel scarcity had caused traffic gridlock on the Abuja-Keffi expressway as commuters invest hours in the traffic.
