Military Confirms Give up Of 80 Militants In Cross River

The Nigerian Military has confirmed the voluntary give up of 80 militants in Cross River State beneath the amnesty programme of the state authorities.

The Assistant Director, Military Public Relations, Headquarters 13 Brigade, Maj. Yemi Sokoya, disclosed this in an announcement on Saturday.

Sokoya stated that the militants surrendered within the early hours of Friday, at Atimbo Rear Space, following Operation OKWOK, in Akpabuyo Native Authorities Space, inside the space of duty of the 13 Brigade.

In accordance with him, the repentant militants emerged from two camps, with one group led by ThankGod Ebikontei, also referred to as Ayibanuagha, presenting 39 fighters.

He stated that the second camp, headed by John Isaac, also referred to as Akpokolo, submitted 41 fighters.

Sokoya added that assorted arms, ammunition and different gadgets, have been additionally voluntarily surrendered in the course of the train.

He stated that these included: rifles, pump-action weapons, single-barrel weapons, magazines, ammunition, pace boats, boat engines and different military-related tools.

The Commander, 13 Brigade Nigerian Military, Brig.-Gen. Paul Alimikhena, described the event as a significant confidence-building milestone.

He attributed it to sustained navy operations, constructive engagement and efficient collaboration with the Cross River State Authorities and different safety businesses.

He stated that the brigade would proceed to offer a safe setting, whereas supporting lawful initiatives geared toward reintegrating repentant youths, and guaranteeing lasting peace throughout within the space.

The commander stated that the surrendered militants had been handed over to the Cross River State Authorities’s Fast Response Staff and have been present process profiling by the state’s Division of State Providers (DSS).

He counseled the State Authorities, beneath Gov. Bassey Otu, for its dedication to peace and safety.
