IG deploys DIG, two CPs over abduction of 20 prospective corps members

The Inspector-Extensive of Police, Olatunji Disu, has deployed the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Operations, DIG Shehu Nadada, to Imo Status to coordinate the investigate-and-rescue operation for 20 prospective Countrywide Youth Solution Corps members and other passengers abducted along the Owerri-Onitsha Road.

PUNCH Digital reports that the victims were abducted on Thursday, October 1, 2026, adjacent to Umunoha, Imo Declare.

The Force Society Relations Officer, Force Headquarters, CSP Anietie Iniedu, disclosed this in a observation issued on Friday.

The statement said Nadada arrived in the condition using two Commissioners of Police and conducted an on-the-spot assessment of the declare and the current rescue efforts.

He furthermore reviewed the engaged strategies, deployment of personnel and functioning assets, and issued added directives aimed at strengthening the coordinated reply.

The assessment was conducted alongside the Imo Declare Commissioner of Police, CP Audu Garba Bosso; the Commissioner of Police, Federal Operations, CP Akpan Anifiok; the Commissioner of Police in value of the Police Mobile Force; other solution commanders and members of the regulation staff of the Imo Declare Police Command.

Iniedu said the investigate-and-rescue operation had been intensified, alongside supplementary tactical teams and engaged assets deployed across identified areas.

He said the operation was furthermore being supported by intelligence-led tracking of the suspects and coordinated efforts including sister security agencies.

According to him, Nadada assured members of the people that the police remained committed to securing the secure rescue of the abducted persons.

“The Nigeria Police Force is committed to securing the low-hazard rescue of the 20 abducted persons and will sustain the operation up to the time that the mission is successfully concluded,” Iniedu quoted Nadada as saying.

Nadada urged members of the audience and the media to continue calm and cautious, during the time that encouraging anyone together with credible facts that could support the operation to communicate alongside the police or the nearest security formation.

“All facts received will be treated including strict confidentiality,” he said.

The declaration added that additional updates would be issued as the operation progresses.
