The Nigerian Guild of Editors has expressed disappointment over the passing of two distinguished and excellent journalists, Messrs Yakubu Mohammed and Dan Agbese.
By the demise of Mohammed and Agbese, who had been among the many three surviving co-founders of Newswatch Journal, Nigerian journalism has misplaced nice and irreplaceable treasures.
Yakubu Mohammed and Dan Agbese, each seasoned journalists and members of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE), had been revered voices in Nigerian media and Nigeria as an entire.
Their incisive commentaries and dedication to press freedom and democratic values, impressed many.
A press release signed by Eze Anaba, the Guild’s President and Onuoha Ukeh, Common Secretary described the deceaseds as iconic journalists who had been fearless, skilled and introduced status to journalism by their works.
“They gave investigative journalism in Nigeria impetus and contributed immensely to nation-building.
As a mark of respect for Yakubu Mohammed and Dan Agbese, we urged all journalists to put aside someday to redeficate themselves and replicate on the salient factors of journalism, with eyes on the cardinal factors of fine journalism, that are reality, accuracy, equity, objectivity, independence, integrity, moral requirements, transparency, and accountability,” the assertion famous.
