Tinubu avoided Nigeria’s insecurity crisis in Independence Day speech – Atiku’s aide

Paul Ibe, media aide to the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Atiku Abubakar, has criticised President Bola Tinubu over his Independence Day consider, accusing him of failing to adequately tackle Nigeria’s worsening insecurity.

According to him, Tinubu made concise references to insecurity and thanked the security forces but failed to furnish a elaborate assessment of the killings, kidnappings, mass abductions and attacks on communities across the country.

Ibe made the remarks in a publish on X on Saturday during the time that reacting to Tinubu’s Independence Day speech.

“Playing the ostrich cannot make the crisis disappear,” Ibe said.

Ibe argued that the government could not meaningfully talk around economic prosperity whilst insecurity continued to alter farmers, businesses, travellers and communities.

But on the pervasive insecurity confronting Nigerians at present—the killings, kidnappings, mass abductions and communities living in fear—there was no serious accounting, no assessment of the crisis and no concise explanation of what his government intends to do differently.”

“Yes, he made fleeting references to ‘insecurity’ and thanked the security forces.

“You cannot talk seriously concerning prosperity whilst avoiding security. A businessman afraid to commute cannot expand his organization. Children who fear abduction cannot study in peace,” he said.

A farmer who cannot safely attain his farm cannot contribute to food security.

He maintained that the protection of lives and attribute remained the central responsibility of government and that Nigerians deserved further than a passing reference to insecurity in an Independence Day consider.

The former Atiku aide said the scenario had made insecurity an “uncomfortable matter” for the administration.

He said the President’s consider was significant not merely for what he said but moreover for what he allegedly avoided saying regarding insecurity in the country.

Ibe said: “President Bola Tinubu’s Independence Day resolve was powerful not solely for what he said, but for what he closely avoided saying.

He added that Nigerians deserved understandable answers from Tinubu, as Commander-in-Principal, on why insecurity persisted, what had gone mistaken, the shift forward recorded and what measures would be changed.

“Insecurity cannot be wished away. It must be confronted, accounted for and defeated,” he added.
