Truck kills 12 bystanders on Abuja–Lokoja highway

No fewer than 12 individuals have been killed and three others injured on Sunday after a truck rammed into bystanders at Gada-Biyu village alongside the Abuja–Lokoja Freeway.

The Federal Capital Territory Sector Commander of the Federal Street Security Corps, Felix Theman, confirmed the incident in a phone interview on Sunday night.

Theman mentioned the crash, which occurred at about 11:47 a.m., concerned three autos—an 18-seater Sharon bus and two Volkswagen Golf automobiles—along with the truck.

In keeping with him, the truck, which was totally loaded with coal and coming from the Lokoja axis at excessive pace, misplaced management and veered off the highway, crashing into bystanders who have been ready by the roadside.

He mentioned 12 folks died on the spot, comprising 4 grownup males, two grownup females, 4 male youngsters and two feminine youngsters. Among the victims have been mentioned to be residents of Gada-Biyu who have been ready to board autos.

Three different individuals sustained various levels of accidents and have been rescued to Abaji Normal Hospital for remedy.

The sector commander mentioned the truck driver and his conductor fled the scene instantly after the incident, apparently to keep away from mob motion.

He added that the our bodies of the deceased had been launched to their households for burial at Gada-Biyu.

Theman attributed the accident to rushing, lack of management and harmful driving by the truck driver.

He disclosed that the FRSC would meet with the administration of the transport firm concerned, noting that this was the second reported crash involving the identical truck alongside the Abuja–Lokoja freeway.

The sector commander additionally mentioned the FRSC had directed its Yangoji Unit Command to make sure that motorists who park by the roadside to choose passengers at Gada-Biyu are relocated to safer places.
