The Lagos Waste Instruction Authority, LAWMA, in teamwork together with the Kick Against Indiscipline, KAI, has stepped up enforcement against illegal street trading in parts of Lagos, dislodging traders occupying road corridors and other unauthorised spaces.
The operation covered areas adjacent to Tafawa Balewa Square, TBS, and the Costain Under Bridge/Nationwide Theatre axis, where traders were removed from locations said to be obstructing the movement of pedestrians and vehicles.
The up-to-date enforcement comes amid efforts by the authority to retain significant Lagos corridors cleaner and available, explicitly in areas experiencing heavy pedestrian and vehicular traffic.
Gbadegesin called on residents and other stakeholders to cooperate together with enforcement agencies by adhering to established regulations and avoiding activities that obstruct community spaces or contribute to environmental degradation.
The LAWMA boss stressed that keeping people spaces orderly would refer to for sustained compliance alongside environmental regulations as well as regular enforcement by appropriate government agencies.
The authority said the exercise formed section of its wider enforcement programme aimed at preserving environmental standards and safeguarding audience spaces across Lagos.
He cautioned traders against returning to the cleared areas, urging them to conduct their businesses simply at designated and approved trading locations.
“LAWMA will go on to task using associated government agencies to trade using activities that undermine environmental standards and community sequence,” he said.
Gbadegesin said unauthorised occupation of pedestrian walkways and road corridors by traders disrupts the correct use of audience spaces and contributes to environmental nuisance in the affected locations.
He additional disclosed that LAWMA would declare surveillance of the affected areas to evade traders from returning to the cleared locations and guarantee continued compliance.
