The Niger Condition Commissioner of Police, CP Adamu Abdullahi Elleman, has charged Gender Desk Officers across the status to adopt professionalism, empathy and diligence in handling Sexual and Gender-Based Violence, SGBV cases.

Elleman gave the charge on Wednesday during a one-day capacity-building programme organised by the Niger Status Police Command for Gender Desk Officers from assorted divisions at the Police Officers’ Mess, Minna.

Speaking earlier, the Officer-in-Expense of the Gender Section, ASP Hadiza Adamu, said the training was a action-down programme from an SGBV direction she attended in Abuja.

She said the knowledge and helpful skills acquired during the method needed to be shared alongside officers responsible for handling SGBV complaints across the Command.

Adamu said officers must be able to listen to survivors, demonstrate empathy, content complaints accurately, survey professionally and take fitting shift whilst safeguarding their dignity and rights.

Too, CSP Jude Akaeze, O/C DRP, delivered a session on “Importance of Diligent Analysis of SGBV Towards Ensuring Prosperous Prosecution,” during the time that the O/C Gender Division spoke on “The Thought of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence.”

ACP Tapshak Bitrus Sekat, AC Medical, addressed the participants on “Effect of Psychological Trauma on Survivors/Victims of SGBV,” whilst FIDA Chairperson, Mrs Bolanle O. Abdulazeez Gado-Nasko, participant representing Magama Constituency; Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Women Affairs, Hon. Murtala Adamu Badaru, component representing Suleja Constituency; Hon. Solomon Washima presented the Nigeria Police approved procedure for activity-based explanation to SGBV cases.

The Command said the training was aimed at improving officers’ capacity to recognize, file, analysis and handle SGBV cases whereas strengthening alignment alongside pertinent stakeholders.

The training was attended by the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Haj. Hadiza Idris Kuta; Deputy Speaker of the Niger Status House of Assembly, represented by Hon. Jibogun, Esq.; and Hakimi-Maikunkele, Hon.
