The absence of three ministers serving in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, alongside 11 of Ondo State’s 12 National Assembly members and candidates, on the inauguration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council in Akure has raised questions on social gathering cohesion forward of the 2027 normal elections.

However, the absence of Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, Minister of Youth Development Ayodele Olawande, Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, and a number of other federal lawmakers has drawn sharp consideration to the strained relationship between the state social gathering management and its influential political blocs.
The improvement comes amid lingering disagreements throughout the Ondo APC over social gathering buildings, political appointments, candidate choice, and the distribution of affect. Recent studies of tensions amongst key stakeholders and competing pursuits have heightened issues over the social gathering’s means to current a united entrance.
Vice President Kashim Shettima had lately expressed comparable issues about inner friction throughout the ruling social gathering, noting that his concern stemmed much less from opposition events than from contradictions throughout the APC itself.
Reacting to the occasion, political analyst and authorized practitioner Alexander Ojo acknowledged that the absence of such outstanding political figures was greater than a mere ceremonial setback, arguing that it straight challenged the social gathering’s inner cohesion.
According to Ojo, profitable elections requires deep cooperation amongst candidates, political financiers, grassroots mobilisers, and influential stakeholders, slightly than relying solely on social gathering buildings.
“The implications for 2027 could be significant. Elections are not won by party logos alone; they require active cooperation among candidates, political financiers, grassroots mobilizers, ward leaders, and influential stakeholders,” Ojo mentioned.
“Senators and members of the House of Representatives possess constituency networks that determine voter mobilization and turnout. If these networks are not fully integrated into the campaign, the APC could struggle to translate its incumbency and federal influence into maximum electoral advantage.”
He warned that unresolved grievances may lead highly effective stakeholders to disengage from campaign actions or function independently, probably undermining each legislative contests and presidential vote mobilisation within the state.
Speaking on the inauguration, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa—who chairs the campaign council alongside the Minister of Interior as a vice chairman—acknowledged the essential significance of unity, warning that inner divisions may jeopardize the APC’s electoral prospects in 2027.
“As large or as big as we are, if we are not together, it will be difficult to win elections. That is why it’s very, very important that we must remain united,” Aiyedatiwa mentioned.
Recalling the political coalition that introduced the APC to energy in 2015, Aiyedatiwa urged social gathering members to study from the divisions that traditionally weakened the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
“We must learn from that, particularly here in our state. We must all work together,” he mentioned, including that retaining political energy was important to defending the pursuits of social gathering members and their communities.
When questioned concerning the conspicuous absence of the ministers and lawmakers, the governor acknowledged that they’d despatched formal apologies forward of the occasion and famous that different outstanding social gathering leaders had been in attendance.
Clearing the air, Pelumi Jaiyeoba, an aide to the Minister of Interior, dismissed options in an interview with Daily Trust that Tunji-Ojo’s absence indicated an absence of dedication to Tinubu’s second-term bid.
Jaiyeoba defined that the minister had a previous official engagement to attend.
“The minister attended a public function. The inauguration programme was scheduled for Saturday, and he had already been invited to another function earlier, which he had promised to attend,” Jaiyeoba mentioned.
He added that the minister’s absence shouldn’t be misconstrued as opposition to Tinubu’s re-election, asserting that Tunji-Ojo was personally funding extra help teams for the President in Ondo State than every other particular person.
