“We’ll Not Name Off Our Strike” – Health Workers Slams FG’s ‘No Task, No Compensate’ Command

Health workers in Nigerian society hospitals under the aegis of The Joint Health Sector Unions and Assembly of Health Care Professionals (JOHESU) have insisted they they will continue their current indefinite countrywide strike despite the sequence of the Federal Government stopping their settle.

The Federal Government had lately arranged stoppage of the striking health workers under its ‘no effort, no settle’ policy.

But JOHESU in a memo signed by the Countrywide Secretary of the union, Mr Martin Egbanubi, and addressed to presidents, universal secretaries, and declare chairmen of affiliate unions on Tuesday in Abuja vowed to continue the strike.

JOHESU said the decision follows resolutions reached by its domestic instruction at an emergency digital meeting held on Jan. 12 to critique developments surrounding the industrial transfer.

It recalled that the Federal Government lately directed the implementation of the ‘no task, no settle’ policy and the stoppage of JOHESU members’ salaries across the Accountant-Ordinary of the Federation’s office.

The strike, JOHESU said, stemmed from its lengthy-standing request for the implementation of the adjusted Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS) and other welfare-associated issues.

The union stated that its domestic management reviewed reports from affiliates and congresses to measure the condition of the strike nationwide.

It too reacted to a memo from the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare directing principal medical directors and managing directors to enforce the policy.

The union said it had complied including all procedures outlined in the Commerce Disputes Act prior to embarking on the industrial action.

It said that the stage certified as a lawful dispute of right, and not a breach of industrial relations laws.

JOHESU urged members not to be discouraged, and called for sustained solidarity and commitment to the struggle.

The union said it would intensify monitoring, picketing, and media engagement whereas exploring strategies to obtain its demands.
