The Rivers Status chapter of the African Democratic Congress, ADC has explained why it claimed that the All Progressives Congress, APC governorship candidate, Kingsley Ogundu Chinda, is no longer competent to contest the 2027 election following the original Supreme Court judgment.
The landmark judgment has sparked a legal deliberate over the implications of the decision for different candidates vying for the varied offices.
He said, “on OK Chinda where persons are asking whether he is eligible or not, the mandatory observe of which a political party can field candidate is that you must submit your membership register to the INEC at least 21 days prior to the primary election.
“This means that all the House of Representatives candidates of APC may not be eligible to run in the election if APC submitted its register later than Chinda joined.
He alleged in a video posted on X that just 19 days elapsed in the middle of Chinda’s registration together with the party and the submission of its register to INEC.
Counting from April 27 to May 16, you have 19 days, which is lower than the mandatory 21 days’ attention.
“APC conducted its primary election for countrywide assembly aspirants on May 16 and Chinda joined APC on April 27.
Reacting, the Publicity Secretary of the ADC in Rivers Status, Chizi Enyi, said the Supreme Court’s verdict has nullified the candidacy of Chinda.
DAILY PUBLISH reports that the Supreme Court, in a judgment delivered on September 24, emphasised compliance alongside Element 77(5) and (6) of the Electoral Act, which requires political parties to submit their verified register of members to the Self-satisfactory Countrywide Electoral Commission, INEC at least 21 days ahead of conducting their principal elections.
This means that Chinda joined the party following the register has been submitted to INEC.
“Earlier than Chinda joined, there was a situation on April 24 that APC beat the deadline earlier than INEC expanded it to May 10.
“My dear Nigerians, it is an apparent truth that Chinda is not eligible to run in the election. Or is APC telling us that they submitted a lot of registers to the INEC”?
