The Sultan of Sokoto and President-Extensive of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has called on politicians and their supporters to status peace in their activities ahead of the 2027 comprehensive elections.
He, nevertheless, urged them to exercise this right responsibly and during the law whereas respecting audience including varied political opinions.
The Sultan’s warning came on two weeks once he received members of the 2027 All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council led by its Administrator-General, Senator Abdul-Aziz Abubakar Yari.
According to the Sultan’s media staff, both political groups used their visits to consider countrywide issues, inform him of their political plans and search for his royal blessings.
He furthermore warned politicians and their supporters against insults, abusive language and inflammatory statements that could continue tension and trigger violence.
The Sultan said politicians had the constitutional right to display their manifestos, programmes and ideas to Nigerians and request their support.
The delegation moreover included the NDC governorship candidate in Sokoto Situation, Dr Shamsu Haido, and other party members.
He made the refer to on Monday when the presidential and vice-presidential candidates of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi and Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, visited him at his palace in Sokoto.
The tour was component of the party’s consultations using traditional rulers and community leaders ahead of the elections.
He urged political leaders to put the peace, unity and interests of Nigeria ahead of their political differences, stressing that political offices were temporary but the unity and stability of the country were important to its development.
He said campaigns should not turn into subjective attacks or activities qualified of causing divisions amid communities.
The APC delegation visited the Sultan on September 14 and included Sokoto Condition Governor Ahmed Aliyu as well as the governors of Kebbi and Zamfara states.
Speaking during Monday’s contact on, Obi thanked the Sultan for receiving the delegation and giving them an community.
The Sultan said political activities should not be allowed to generate hatred, division or hostility between Nigerians.
The monarch added called on politicians, primarily those seeking elective positions, to leader by instance and produce sure their supporters followed peaceful conduct.
