The federal government and status governments are collection to confront some of the structural challenges undermining housing delivery in Nigeria as housing stakeholders converge on Sokoto for the 15th Meeting of the Statewide Council on Land, Housing and Urban Development.
The five-day meeting, scheduled for October 12 to 16, 2026, will focus on strengthening the country’s mortgage, land administration and institutional systems as component of efforts to accelerate admission to inexpensive and inclusive housing.
The council, using the theme, “Strengthening Mortgage, Land and Institutional Systems for Accelerated and Inclusive Housing Delivery,” is expected to bring together federal and situation housing authorities, regulators, housing corporations, built-environment professionals and other key players to analysis determined barriers to housing delivery.
Within those expected at the meeting are condition commissioners and permanent secretaries responsible for housing and urban development, large managers and leader executive officers of declare housing corporations, condition surveyor-generals and representatives of regulatory agencies.
The meeting comes amid growing recognition in the housing sector that increasing the overall of housing units alone may not address Nigeria’s housing challenges free from reforms to the systems governing availability to land, housing endorse, mortgages and urban development.

The Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Dr Shuaib Belgore, said the meeting was in line including the ministry’s efforts to encourage sustainable housing delivery and enhance the institutional framework supporting the sector.
The council is furthermore expected to assessment helpful strategies for improving the systems and institutions needed to broaden availability to reasonably priced housing, whereas addressing land administration and mortgage-relevant constraints that persist to impact housing delivery across the country.
