Tinubu sympathises with Anthony Joshua over deadly highway accident

President Bola Tinubu has expressed sympathy with world-renowned boxer, Anthony Joshua, following a highway accident on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway that claimed two lives and left the boxer injured.

In a message addressed to Joshua on on X (Previously Twitter) on Monday, the President described the incident as a tragic loss that has forged a shadow over the season, whereas praying for the repose of the deceased and a speedy restoration for the boxer.

“I lengthen my deep sympathies to you following the tragic accident on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, which claimed two treasured lives and prompted you accidents,” Tinubu stated.

“This immense tragedy casts a deep shadow on this season,” he added.

Tinubu stated he shared within the grief of Joshua and his household as they arrive to phrases with the emotional influence of the incident, noting that the boxer’s character and repair to the nation remained admirable even in moments of ache.

“I sympathise with you and your loved ones as you bear the emotional weight of this unlucky incident. As a sportsman, you could have all the time proven braveness, self-discipline, and unwavering love for our nation. These are qualities which have made you a supply of nationwide pleasure,” the President stated.

Calling for unity and mutual assist, Tinubu added, “In moments like this, we should encourage each other as brothers and sisters with a shared future.”

He concluded by providing prayers for Joshua’s restoration and the victims of the crash. “I pray for power, knowledge, and style for you throughout this painful interval. Might God grant you a speedy restoration and repose to the souls of the departed,” he stated.

Joshua was concerned in a highway accident on Monday at Makun, Ogun State, alongside the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.

Eyewitnesses stated the accident occurred shortly after 11am when the Lexus SUV conveying the boxer reportedly collided with a stationary truck close to the Danco Filling Station, earlier than the Sagamu Interchange on the Ibadan-bound lane.

Joshua was stated to have sustained minor accidents, whereas two occupants of the automobile died on the spot.
